DIALux and Metaroom: Lighting Design for Existing Buildings via IFC

In cooperation with Amrax, we have developed an interface that allows 3D room models from Metaroom to be imported directly into DIALux. Lighting and electrical planners can accurately capture rooms and buildings with Metaroom and immediately begin lighting design, significantly accelerating and simplifying the planning process.

The AI-powered Scan-To-BIM Solution for Existing Projects

The Metaroom app is an innovative 3D scanning solution from Amrax, based on artificial intelligence, LiDAR, and SLAM technologies. With the Metaroom app, users can quickly scan rooms and buildings using a LiDAR-enabled iPhone Pro or iPad Pro. The scans are processed in the cloud and converted into precise 3D models. In Metaroom, these models can be optimized and enriched with information. They can then be exported into common formats such as IFC, enabling seamless integration into various BIM and CAD applications.

Seamless Integration of Metaroom and DIALux

The integration of Metaroom and DIALux enables smooth data exchange between both platforms. Models can be downloaded directly from Metaroom via the browser and imported into DIALux. The import is based on Open BIM and the IFC standard, which was very important to us. Depending on the project, entire buildings with multiple floors and rooms can be imported. The rooms are transferred with their IFC-defined designations. After import, planners can immediately begin with the lighting design.

Benefits for Lighting Designers and Engineers

Using Metaroom in conjunction with DIALux offers lighting and electrical planners significant time savings when designing lighting concepts and planning lighting systems. The time-consuming manual construction of room geometry before the actual lighting design is eliminated, representing a significant efficiency gain. Planners can now test various lighting options in precise 3D models of existing buildings to find cost-efficient, aesthetically pleasing, and sustainable solutions. The planning results can then be exported as an IFC model for the Open BIM process or other BIM/AEC applications.

Availability and System Requirements

The integration of DIALux and Metaroom is available to all DIALux Pro subscribers with DIALux evo 13. To use the scanning function of the Metaroom app, a LiDAR-enabled Apple device (iPhone 12 Pro and iPad Pro 2020 generation or later) is required. However, viewing and downloading shared 3D models is possible directly in any web browser via Metaroom. More information can be found here: Metaroom and DIALux.
